Help installing on Debian

Post by icemannz »

Hi all,
I built a new box running Debian 503 Lenny to run Virtual Box 3.0 on but I cannot get it installed.
I have read a lot of pages and help files but it comes down to the error below.
Please note I am a newbe when it comes to linux so any help is appreciated.

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-3.0
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
virtualbox-3.0: Depends: libpython2.6 (>= 2.6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqt4-network (>= 4.5.0~+rc1) but 4.4.3-1 is to be installed
Depends: libqtcore4 (>= 4.5.0~+rc1) but 4.4.3-1 is to be installed
Depends: libqtgui4 (>= 4.5.0~+rc1) but 4.4.3-1 is to be installed
Recommends: dkms but it is not installable

After you get those kind of errors, run sudo apt-get install -f to fix broken dependencies. It's strange, because these things should be resolved and installed automatically. If you use aptitude (with no arguments) you get the package manager which will give you more graphical feedback on what's going on. There should also be a full graphical package manager, like Synaptic.
