write-through vs normal

Post by TechGeek »

After reading through the manual, I understand immutable and normal disk modes. I don't get write-through though. What does it do differently than normal? Why would I use it? I couldn't really make heads or tails of the explanation in the manual and I found little from search.

Thanks,

The best use of a write-through drive is to add a second drive as write-through to your VM and then use it to store data. If you are using snapshots write-through or immutable drives are not included if you revert so everything on the drive will not be lost, but with immutable you can not add to it.

So when a snapshot is made, it snapshots all the drives on the VM if they are all in normal mode? If so I see the reason for write-through.

Wow. Why couldn't someone put it that clear in the manual. I was fairly confused too. That clears it for me.

Thanks.
