No USB devices available
From the first time I installed VirtualBox, until now, I've never seen available any of my USB devices, even any of my USB Memory vaults.
I'm running Fedora 11 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586
VirtualBox 3.0.6 r52128
Thanks for your assistance.

Re: No USB devices available
USB is not supported in the OSE version of VBox, you need to install the PUEL version.

Re: No USB devices available
Sure they should survive just fine. Just uninstall the OSE and then download the PUEL from here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Re: No USB devices available
Thanks Perryg,
I have uninstalled the former version and installed the one from the link, but I still have the same problem.
When I downloaded the file, it had the same name as the previously installed version, is this normal?

Re: No USB devices available
OK, I see:
I have never installed OSE, I have always installed PUEL (the precompiled version of VirtualBox, isn't it?
so, how can I manage to have my USB devices?
I have read the User Manual, that says to add the user to the virtualbox users group, that I have done with the same results: no USB

Re: No USB devices available
In the FAQ, there is the following
Q: I connect an USB device, but it isn't grabbed by the VM. What's going on?
A: Are you using the OSE version or the PUEL version? The OSE version does not provide USB functionality. If you use the PUEL version, read the Wiki and manual for how to set it up in Linux Hosts. Windows systems should work automatically. There will be a question for a driver on the Host once VB grabs it. Continue the installation, letting it search for a driver automatically. If you get a prompt about driver signatures, just Continue Anyway.
Does someone know to what WIKI does it refer?

Re: No USB devices available
Make sure that the guest additions are installed.
Also it states that you are using the OSE version in your profile. To keep this from becoming an issue again you should update it to say PUEL.

Re: No USB devices available
Thanks, I have updated my profile
I re-installed Guest additions and nothing happens.
I think the problem is with my user (the non-root user). I have started VirtualBox as root and USB is available, but not when started as another user (both are members of virtualbox users: marcoA and root).

Re: No USB devices available
I don't see vboxusers listed as a group. Are you sure you are in the vboxusers group?
In terminal as su

Re: No USB devices available
thaks!
I have found the solution in the following thread:
http://www.fedora-es.com/node/7360
su -
gedit /etc/fstab
adding the following line under proc:
none /sys/bus/usb/drivers usbfs devgid=500,devmode=664 0 0
After rebooting my pc, it worked ok
