I have VBox 3.0.4 running on a Windows XP SP3 Host. I have a Windows Vista Ultimate Guest, with Guest Additions installed. I have set up a shared folder, and no matter what I do, I can't see it in my guest OS. I also have "Shared Clipboard: Bidirectional" enabled in the virtual machine's "General" settings, and yet stuff that I "copy" in my guest is not available to "paste" in my host.
I'm pretty confused, since I thought I set everything up appropriately (using the user documentation as reference and carefully checking all settings). Is this a known problem with Vista guests? Should I upgrade to 3.0.6 to solve this problem? Help?

Assuming you have installed the guest additions:
You can create a share in the guest settings of the VBox program then start the guest and then open a command window and type the following to mount the share in Windows.
Replace sharename with the name you gave the share in VirtualBox. It will now show up in your file manager.

Code: Select all
net use x: \\vboxsvr\sharename -p-

Re: Win XP Host/Win Vista Guest: shared folders/clipboard?
Thank you SO MUCH! I saw the instructions for adding the share via the command line in the manual, but it's implied that you only need to do so on Linux or similar guests. In a Windows guest, it's just supposed to show up (I think it might even show up for me in my XP guest, I can't recall).
In any case, that worked, and I can see my shared folder now, which will make saving screenshots for my user manuals a lot easier.
Still don't understand why the shared clipboard thing doesn't work, but I'll live with it.
