VDI file size

Post by spitzanator »

Hey, I'm trying to back up my virtual machines to a FAT32 partitioned hard drive (max filesize: 4 GB), and my 8GB VDI is too large.

Is there a way to break up a dynamically-growing VDI into smaller filesizes? I know VMWare can do this, but I'm hoping that VirtualBox can, too.

Thanks,
Matt

Grab WinRAR (or another archiving program) and compress it and split the file in 3 GB parts. Or just convert/reformat the drive to NTFS. FAT32 is way to old to be used these days.

Blargh, I guess so. It's my backup drive, and I'd like to be able to read it with whatever operating system, and as far as I know, FAT32's still the best way to do that.

Thanks,
Matt

Other systems, like Linux and Mac OSX can read NTFS through the NTFS-3g module.
