How to create a machine on an external drive?

Post by tfaessler »

Hi,

is it possible to create a machine on an external drive? I managed to create the VDI on my external disk, but the machine itself with the settings, snapshots etc is saved in my home directory.

Thanks

In the preference setting for the main VBox program you can select to change the place where these are stored.

Ok, but these are the defaults. I want to have just one machine on a different (than the default) location. Is this possible?

Only way I know of is to manually edit the virtualbox.xml and tell it where the file is. I have not tried this but it should work.
Be sure to make a backup first in case something goes south!
