Audio CAPTURE gone on CentOS 5 host with XP guest

Post by rmuetze »

All,

I've happily used VBox with a Windows XP SP3 guest ever since for my windows-only telephony application which links my home office to my employers telephone switchboard. Suddendly, audio capture is gone and I'm left behind with a muted telephone. I recently upgraded from 3.0.4 to 3.0.6. COincidentally, the CentOS kernel packages have been upgraded around the same time.
Audio output is working in both the host and all my guests. Audio capture (input) is working on my host. I didn't change my audio mixer's settings and my KDE desktop packages didn't change. I tried downgrading to 3.0.4 to no avail. I tested audio capture in other guests, which fails too. However, I never tested this before so I can't tell if it broke recently or if it never worked for the other guests.
I disabled the KDE sound system, restarted it, reconfigured it and finally wrongful cursed it ;(
Right now, I'm lost.

I grepped for alsa and audio in VBox's log file:

[rmuetze@oompa-loompa storage]$ grep -i alsa /opt/virtualbox/Machines/vm-winxp-qs-01/Logs/VBox.log
00:00:01.166 AudioDriver <string> = "alsa" (cch=5)

Any help here is appreciated! Thanks a lot! Mahalo!
