Noob quesiton: How do I run my recently installed Arch Linux

Post by DPatel304 »

First time using VB, and I'm trying to set up a virtual Arch Linux OS (it's for a class I'm taking). I've downloaded the ISO file on my PC and used that to install Arch Linux. I run the install which seems to install smoothly, then it wants me to reboot. I do, however, it's still set to boot from the ISO file.

I believe, once installed, I don't need the ISO file any more, and just need to run Arch Linux from the 10GB partition I made for the Arch Linux install, but I'm not too sure how to go about doing this.

Sorry if this is listed on the site. I searched around and couldn't find anything, so I would greatly appreciate your help.

it is really no different from installing an OS on a physical machine. On a physical machine you take the CD out of the drive after you finish the install. (In the old days you had to remember to remove the floppy disk or it would try to boot from that). With a virtual machine you go to the machine settings and change the CD/DVD settings so that it does not read the ISO.

Yea, I tried that, then it gives me the message that there is 'no bootable media available'. So all I do is unmount the image and it should run just fine? Maybe I've installed it incorrectly.

Boot the system again from the ISO (if you really do get the error "No bootable media found") and check if you actually have a boot loader installed. Maybe that step got skipped. Consult the Arch installation documentation for more information.
