I use lvm so create vm partitions not much larger than necessary. when I used vmware this meant ~1G+ more than I'd need for the vm because vmware would create its own swap file (I guess) when the vm was run. I always like to keep things together so instead of some central location for these files just kept them on the same lvm partition the vm was on and planned accordingly when creating the partition.
I notice vbox seems very different in this regard - if I create a 10G partition and only use 9G for the vm, that free 1G seems to never be used. so I'm wondering, is there any reason I couldn't squeeze the partition right down to just what's needed? iow if the vdi will be 9G is there any reason I couldn't make the partition 9.1G? I don't need space for snapshots or anything like that.
