He installed it, he didn't run it (yet). But I do wonder, did he have internet on the Host from the start? The whole point is about internet on Host through the Guest. Wonder why it can't be on the Host directly.

No drivers or something like that, but it can't be that diffecult, the point here is wanting things too fast, you need to sit down and think about what you want and how its going to work, doing is then a matter of configuring the right adapters, its no rocket science.

To answer some questions and clarify some points:
OSX is on a Hackintosh; no OSX driver for my wi-fi card in my netbook.
There is a 'supposed' fix, however, few people have gotten it to work.
I have gotten to work but it's intermittent.
Actually, I've been working on this for almost 3 weeks now; I don't think that's being too hasty
in wanting to get it to work.
I have thought about it immensley (truely!!!) even when I'm sleeping but can't understand why it
doesn't work. I'm pretty good with 'piters and always fix my friends and familys problems.
I'm a wide area network analyst so know a thing or two. That being said, it just won't work.
I bring it to work and plug away at it every opportunity it get and can't think of an explicable reason why this shouldn't work. All of the theoretical criteria have been satisfied. Why did the pings work and then stop after disabling the firewal?
Why did that other nic all of a sudden grab an ip, becoming pingable by the host? Why won't it get Internet now that they can ping each other? It's not a dns issue because I can't ping sites by name or ip.
I have mapped this out but still can't get it to work.
You're right, this is not rocket science and should work almost immediately, but it doesn't.
Regarding teamvier, I can use the wired connection on the host to get Internet.
Reason for doing this is because I like the osx experience. I would like to use it but not have to
be wired. I could buy a wireless card that many have said works with osc but I would never get a chance to sit down, take my netbook apart, remove the old to install the new one, then put it back together.
Plus it's just so kook that it want to do it!!!
Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he could.

Fyi.
What you now need to do is add the additional values to the virtual box host-only network on your MAC, like gateway, dns, etc... because the Host adapter only has basic settings for a Guest to communicate with the Host, but your doing it the other way around so the Host needs to know who is providing dns/gateway services. Have a look at the tcp/ip properties on the MAC for this adapter.

This was exactly what i'd been trying to figure out how to do. I mean, I know what to do but, I didn't know how to do it in VB. I've scoured the Internet, re-installed VB, tried different versions of VB, but there does not seem to exist any way to do this. That makes me

. This adapter doesn't show up in the OSX tcp/ip properties. I know where you're going with that and have looked there right from the get go. i still look there, hoping that i've somehow missed it... LOL!
It would be great if, like Windows, and other operating systems, the network preferences in VB allowed you to enter DNS info but it just doesn't. I tried to see if there's a way you can do it with vboxmanage but since it's just a command line equivalent of the gui...it still can't be done.
It works if I statically put the route in the osx routing table of the websites but I needn't tell you how that is 'no solution'.
I would have to put a static route for each and every individual website. Huhn?! Nope! That won't work.
Hopefully Sun will include DNS options in the fields for the network adapters in future releases.
Looks like i have to hang up my VB until then. I've spent WAY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TIME ON THIS ONE SINGLE PROBLEM already.
TOo bad though.

If your Mac doesn't have any connection to it's physical interfaces, it somehow disables the virtual ones too. One way to avoid this, is to create or buy a so called 'loopback' plug which you can insert into your wired NIC to fake a connected interface. That should pop up the virtual Host-Only interface after which you can configure it for ICS use through the VM.

thanks for that. Got any name brands or model numbers that I can search gooGle? I'll do an initial search for loopback network cable to see if I find it. Hopefully I don't have to barter one of the twins just to be able to afford one. C'mon!!! that's a joke people!!!

You can create one yourself for a dollar or something. See
http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/2006/0 ... -cable.htm for how to create one. If you ask your local computer shop to create something like that, I'm sure you won't leave empty handed (giving that it's a good shop, not some lousy shack

).

Thanks. I actually did make my own after a quick search on the Goog.
I live Canada. It's like the 3rd world county of technology sometimes. None of our most popular computer stores carry this or even know what it is.
So it makes the Ethernet of the MAC show as connect now. I can configure an IP, gateway, dns on it but the virtual mic still doesn't show up with an option to enable dns.

Well, well what a coincidence.
First bit of good news for you: I think I can help
Now, my story:
Got used first gen macbook, has typical issues with bluetooth and nearly unusable wifi (airport).
I have an old usb wifi adapter. Why not use that? No OSX driver.
Hmm....find driver or somehow run vm of windows of linux and share the connection?
(Look for driver.... nothing. Move on.....)
GOOGLE!!!
http://communities.vmware.com/thread/120047
That PDF basically got me going!!
Then I found this thread and thought I must share the way.
The easiest way for me to do this was to do what the guy said - "create network" in airport menu.
That will automatically get an ip address when ethernet cant. My airport is basically shot, but I was able to activate that and get the connection from VBox.
Right now Im posting in the VM (Windows 2K BABY!) but could also just do it from OSX!!!
I wanted to get it to go through ethernet to save battery but who cares. Its wonderful being able to connect again. WITH MY LIKE 5 YEAR OLD NETGEAR CRAP!
(I LOVE YOU!)
Its 4AM for me - and I have a two year old!!!
I feel you. Hope you get this working! Check out that link.
Now since I am running a VM to replace a fing wifi driver.... I want to get it as light as possible. Any advice?
