Can't download 3.0.6

Hi - I want to have a go with Virtual Box but I'm falling at the first hurdle. I'm attempting to download 3.0.6 for WIndows (XP Pro sp3) using Firefox 3.0.13 and the link on the downloads page:
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 28-Win.exe
and it seems to go ok - 68.3Mb downloaded. But it never completes - Firefox just says 'a few seconds remaining' :(

Any ideas? I tried with my firewall disabled but that didn't make any difference.

Cheers
matt

Try a different browser, like IE. If the file doesn't finish downloading, it's usually a download manager problem. Browser download dialogues are a form of download manager.

Good idea! However, have now tried IE7 and Chrome, and the same thing happens in both ie. neither completes, despite downloading 68.3Mb

However... I have just downloaded it fine on my Linux laptop (same modem/router). Does Virtual Box for Windows work under Wine?

No, unfortunately, it's incompatible :P.

It's ok, I was only joking - although I quite like the idea of running a Linux under Windows VB which is running on Linux under Wine. That would give the laptop a workout

For what do you need Windows as a VBOX Guest? With the linux firefox you can manually abort the downloads.

:)

Editing video will give the machine some workout too ;). Virtualization under a virtualizer is not all that stable and not supported by VB atm. There are some ways and programs that can do this though. But that's for a different topic and subject.

Sorry - to clarify, I just want to run VB on my Windows XP PC and use it to run CentOS 5.

I already figured that. Did you manage to get it installed and running?

No - I can only download it on my Linux laptop. I suppose I could transfer it to my PC if I had a USB flash device lying around, but I haven't got one at the moment. Also, I shouldn't have to!

That's true, you shouldn't have to. But it's Windows we're talking about, it can do some strange things. Now, for the actual problem of the download, do you happen to have some anti-virus software or firewalls running? Try to disable them and see how the download goes.

As I mentioned in my original post, I did try disabling my firewall/AV, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I know Windows can do some funny(/irritating) things, and it's bound to be something in my PC's configuration. But I'm not seeing this problem with other downloads - is there anything 'different' about the VB download that you know of?

If your Laptop and PC are both on the same router/modem, can you not just pull the file across from your laptop over the network?

Of course he can do that. He could also use a USB stick for that matter, but the whole point is why Windows doesn't want to download the file till the end.
