network (hardware) problem

Post by donpontillo »

Hi guys!
I'm italian and...no italian forum helped me...i tried to read 3ds of guys that had my same problem but didn't find any....i'm saying this beacouse i know you'd like me to read around first but it didn't work....anyway...
i'm really not good at network connection options so i didn't understand half of the things i flagged or read into eather VM options and GUEST OS net option (and i clicked round a lil'!) :) (dunno about ip and dns and much other things i read around your long 3ds)

these some infos:
HOST OS: win 7
GUEST OS: win xp (micro one...the 200Mb one)
SUN VM RELEASE: 3.0.6

my problem are....
1_win xp won't see the right hardware to connect (that's what it says). The ethernet card that it should share with the host pc i think....and even if it will one day i don't know what else to do to connect the host pc....
2_can't get to move files from HOST and GUEST PC....i'm using the dvd player right now but can't continue to burn CDs....

i've got a cd that came with the modem and there are drivers (ethernet drivers it says) that i needed to install in order to connect the HOST pc....but didn't work (the installation) on the GUEST becouse no NET CARD was detected...on the same cd there's a telephone caller software (like skype but uses telecom italia line and it ain't free!!!) and that's the software i really need to get going!!!

probably i didn't give you all the info you need to help me so....if you need to know some else i'll find it for you....but please help me....
or....link me back to the right place...

It's very unfortunate for you that you don't use an official XP version. Because you use some third party stripped down version, we can't and won't offer any help because it's an illegal version. We don't allow illegal software here. If you had the normal version of XP, it would install the network card without issues and I'm sure that more programs and hardware will work compared to your 'tiny' Windows.

SOLVED

Post by donpontillo »

you were right!
win 7 is so easy that even I was able to make it go:) it does all by it self....

anyway...i was doin the wrong thing in setting the connection with the bridge way....wich i read is the way to connect sharing the ethernet card.....
once i did set the connection in NAT mode (wich i read is the way to connect trough pin assignment just as another pc would do) it went great!

now i really need advice on how transform win7 in the lighter OS ever....i really don't need it to connect or gaming.....nothin but that phone calling software has to run....so....
whatever it'll make it faster....is accepted as good good advice!

tnx for not kickin me out for the micro xp thing :)

Ok, you run W7 as Host, and you just installed it again as Guest. Why would you do that? If the software runs on the VM, can't you just install it on the Host? Windows 7 has a special mode, called Windows XP emulation, which, if I understand correctly, should run programs the way XP would do.

Tweaking of OSses to make them run faster is not in the scope of the forum, you have to go to a more specialized forum for that. Also, fast is a relative concept. You may think it's fast, while I think it's slower than a snail. It also depends on the system it runs on and the settings for the VM.

of course...

the program i'm tryin to run on the VM doesn't work anymore on the HOST os...dunno why....and even if it will one day, i still need three instances of it (and only one at the time is allowed)....

about the fastness....what i ment is...less usage of ram and cpu as possible....
i gues there's a bunch of stuff running onto a complex OS that i won't need since i don't use is beside that programm...anyway don't worry bout that....

ehm....by the way....this small phone calling programm doesn't work on the vm neighter....
but it's a different kind of problem....it needs a secondary connection.....but this isn't a vm problem so....never mind....

tnx!
