The VPC image (VHD) files from Microsoft will not work in VirtualBox. They have a restriction that does not allow for this to happen. We had a contact message from one of the MS managers that said they were looking into it, but at this point nothing has been resolved.
The other (WIndows XP) is it a VHD image as well or are you trying to install it from the actual CD?

But - is this a new thing, with the .VHD? Strange - it used to work before, didn't it?
Is there anyway around this?
Many thanks again - in advance

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Running a VHD that you have activated in VPC almost always forces reactivation when you switch to another virtualizer. Only thing is you can re-activate it because you have a valid key. The images that you get from MS do not have a valid key and that is why you can not re-activate them when you switch to another virtualizer program.

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Thanks, but I am not sure I get it: What does it mean that I try to "*re*-activate it on a different virtualizer"? This is a brand new .vhd that I triy to set on my machine, but I did'nt try to activate it before on any other machine. I am sorry for being "thick" here... and thanks again for your advicePerryg wrote:Running a VHD that you have activated in VPC almost always forces reactivation when you switch to another virtualizer. Re: Mouse won't uncapture
The fact that it is a VHD means that it was in fact created on a different software package like VirtualPC. When you put it on VirtualBox it is seeing the change in the hardware emulation and is triggering for re-activation. Unless you have the activation key and enter it then it will become crippled at some point.
Tell me where did you get the VHD file of XP? We know one came from Microsoft and will not work in VBox because of the reason I gave you earlier. The second one, did you create it yourself in VirtualPC?

Normally I run 2 virtual machines: 1 - a regular XP system, that I have a license for. That one is installed manually on a regular .vdi image.
The second is a .vhd image with a window XP SP3 and internet explorer 6 for my tests. This one was originally installed couple of months ago, and I can't remember any problems installing it, it was quite smooth.
Problem is - this package was time limited, and is now expired. So I went on and downloaded a new package from MS download center (http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/deta ... laylang=en), tried ot download it on my machine - and that's where I get the problem.
