Mouse won't uncapture
Hi, I have this problem - couldn't work it out:
the host is Ubuntu 8.10. I have just installed a inXP image disk. At first booting the machine, before having the chance to install the Guest Additions, my mouse is trapped inside the V machine window. Trying to uncapture it by means of right-CTRL and click - won't release the mouse! Only way to release it is to shut down the virtual machine... Is there a way out of this?
Many thanks in advance,

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
You shouldn't click. The right-ctrl key will unbind the mouse, the click will rebind

You are rihgt- but not clicking would'nt do either - only at hitting the right CTRL button - the mouse still won't release...

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
You know, if you install the Guest Additions, you will never have this problem again. You don't have to do anything to release the mouse from the VM.

That is what he said, the right-ctrl key will unbind (release) the mouse.mickey524 wrote:You are rihgt- but not clicking would'nt do either - only at hitting the right CTRL button - the mouse still won't release...

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Hitting the right control should release the mouse - right?
Well it doesn't.
I hit right control, but the mouse is trapped inside the v-machine window.
That's my problem.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks again.

Look in the main VBox program and preferences and input. See if the host key is the right ctrl key or not. You can also change the host key from there by clicking on the area that states the host key to highlight it and then pressing another key to change it to.

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Problem is - before even full boot - the XP system is asking me to activate my WinXp license copy - So I have to click inside the window - and from there on - no way out...dmcgraw wrote:You know, if you install the Guest Additions, you will never have this problem again. Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Thanks! Indeed the host key was right-CTRL - but I have changed it - and this solved the problem - the mouse is released.Perryg wrote:Look in the main VBox program and preferences and input. However - at clicking on the "install host additions" - nothing happened. I got no reaction.
Eventually - I deleted the Vmachine and re-installed it.
Now - everything worked alright -both host key and host additions.
My only problem now - The xp system would lock me out - unless I activate the system. Can't activate it - unless I install and configure the TCP/IP. Can't do that either - as I am locked out of the system :-s. I tried to activate the system by the phone - but this won't go either.
Many thanks again,
Michal

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Open the VirtualBox main program and click on settings for the guest.
Then go to the network settings and post here what it says.
Also do you have Internet connection on the Host computer?
Do you have a router?

PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973)
Attached to NAT
Yes, the host is connected to the Internet. The internet connection is through a router.
Thanks again!

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
So just to be clear you can not get the program to where you can setup the network?
If you are totally locked out then you may need to delete the VM and start over.

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Yup - already did that - couple of time. At the end of the day - I am locked outside the system.Perryg wrote:So just to be clear you can not get the program to where you can setup the network?

The problem is: I cannot even get to configure the network driver on the guest, in order to get connected and activate the machine.
BTW - I have two more vmachines: 1 runs XP with IE7. The other runs XP with IE6. That one is expired, which is why I am struggling with a new installation right now.

Re: Mouse won't uncapture
Are these by chance image files that you downloaded from Microsoft that are VHD files?

One of them is - and that one has expired, so I am struggling to replace it with a new one...Perryg wrote:Are these by chance image files that you downloaded from Microsoft that are VHD files?
The other one is a regular licensed WinXp version .
