I need some help. I have read the tutorial on how to migrate an existing OS to VB. There is a step in the tutorial which I can't execute (run MergeIDE). The origional hardware motherboard is fried. The hard disk is ok and I can read it on my new XP box. I need to run some of the software on the old os but it won't boot because of the completely new hardware. Luckily I imaged the disk before trying to boot off it.
How can I work around not having run MergeIDE?
Any help would be appreciated as I can't get the origional software to reinstall on the new box.
Thanks.

The quick answer is that I don't know if your problem is fixable, but I've heard it alleged that you can edit the registry from something like a BartPE recovery CD. You might want to investigate that. You would need to be able to run regedit from a CD while pointing it at registry hive on the HDD. If you can get it to run then you can use the "File | Import..." feature to import all the MergeIDE changes. A quick web search found this.
Obviously, make a copy of your original VDI file before you start messing with it.
