Can't uninstall VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver Minipor

Post by christiang »

Before upgrading to Windows 7 I de-installed VirtualBox 3.0.2. Now I can't install VirtualBox again, because it's doing a rollback at the end of the installation and reports an error 1603. The installation only works, if I de-select "VirtualBox Networking".

I found some leftovers in the Device Manager under Network adapters. Each of them with a desciption "- VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver Miniport" and a yellow exclamation mark. This devices can be disabled but not uninstalled (no message - just remains installed).

I checked the FAQ and this forum and the only solution seem to be a re-installation of 3.0.2 to do an uninstall. But unfortunately this VirtualBox version also does a rollback.

The VirtualBox installation can't handle this situation. Does anybody know how I can uninstall the VirtualBox Networking? This seem to necessary for a new VBox installation.

Thanks!

I found a solution for this problem. Unfortunately the VirtualBox installation still doesn't work.

There are registry key HKLM\System\ControlSet00*\Enum\Root\SUN_VBOXNETFLTMP. To delete this keys you've to take the ownership and grant yourself "full access" rights. After that the entries in "device manager / network adapters" are gone.

In the meantime I deleted the program directory, everything with *vbox*.* and *virtualbox*.* under \Windows and below. And I also removed everything in the registry that has to do with *vbox* and *virtualbox*.

The VirtualBox installation (I'm using VirtualBox-3.0.6-52128-Win) still terminates with a rollback and the message box:
Installation of MSI failed!
ERROR: 1603

As this problem is different to the one in the subject, I may have to start another thread.

Thanks.
