updated to 3.0.6 now can not load ubuntu

everytime i loaded vb it tells me there is a newer version, so i say ok lets get it and click on the link and run, after it installed i can not log into ubuntu any more keep getting error message "failed to start the virtual machine ubuntu 8.04 medium 'c:\progra~1\sin\xvmvir~1\vboxguestadditions.iso' in not accessible. could not access the image file'c: \progra~1\sun\xmvir~1\vboxguestadditions.iso (verr_path_not_found)
do i just need to direct the newer vb to the iso off my win xp h/drive
my setup is xp host, wind 7 and ubuntu guest

mowomo all i did was open vb and select new the followed the instructions and directed the program to load my iso image that i already had on my h/drive and everything worked ok, then i deleted the old one off my vb menu

Not the best or real solution. The problem is that on Windows, the installation location for 3.0.6 changed, thus the Media Manager no longer had the correct location for the Guest Additions ISO file. Releasing and removing the entry in the MM will make your VMs start again. However, if your VM is in saved state, the ISO cannot be released. You have to discard the current state first. A more tricky fix is to edit the XML files so the new location is reflected. VB must be closed when doing that.
