Calling all Windows 7 x64 host users

Hi,
I've been trying to get a x64 guest OS running on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 using 2 or more cores and can't seem to find a way. I've been reading several posts regarding this matter and can't quite figure out the problem (either comaptibility with WIndows 7 or compatibility with x64).
So all of you Windows 7 users (I know oficial support is limited) could please confirm that:
1- your host is a Windows 7 x64 RTM
2- you have a Windows x64 guest installed and running stable with 2 or more cores
If this is a real problem we should se more people not being able to have this set up and working.
Thanks

My dev station is a Core2Quad Windows7 x64 system with 16GB of ram
Running multiple VM on there (quite successfully) - one of which is...
Ubuntu Server x64 on 2 cores
Having issues with a different VM (but the dual core setup is just dandy).
EDIT: I may have just stuck my foot in my mouth! It is configured with 2 Processors. I can test with 2 cores if it helps...if this is different, point me to where to look!

Hi,
I also run Windows 7 x64 RTM. I resently installed VirtualBox and till know i'm quite content. Everything runs oke but sometimes the screen just turns black and the virtual keeps running but the black screen remains.
Does anyone knows this problem and how it could be resolved.

Hmm, so you guys are running with 2 processors configured in the guest?
I can't seem to get it stable. host x64 with guest x64 AND 2 cores configured on guest, it will eventually crash...

Spoke a bit too soon - fine all day yesterday but found it dumped sometime last night.
I have two installs using a single processor running stable with the exception of the periodic network dump...this is a bit frustrating!
Still looking into it

I'm getting frustrated too.
When running Windows Server 2008 R2 as quest OS and using two cores It sometimes crashes and the screen turns black with no activity.
Yesterday it also crashed with 1 cpu. I hope this is something that can be fixed untill then I will be using windows virtual pc.

Possible solution - new test build available
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4480
Will test tonight and post results, fingers crossed.

Sorry, no go, still random crash with 2 cores on the guest enabled, back to one core and wait for a fix

I'm running W7 x64 host and W2K3 x64 as a guest OS.
If I enable more than one core in the guest OS, problems will occur like hangs.
Hope we can get this fix. Multicore in the guest is the reason why I went with VirtualBox!

I agree, still no joy with 2 processors in the guest on 3.0.8 . Soon after startup the screen goes to unreadable with colored bars. (Win 7 Pro X64 host and guest). Works fine with one processor.

An update on this. After updating the guest additions to 3.0.8 I found that Server2008 R2 would boot up and run with two CPUs. I can confirm that Windows 7 will also now run with 2 cores with the 3.0.8 additions on my system. (Dell SC1430 Quad-core Xeon). Will post back if this causes any problems, but it looks good now.

I'm not sure what you mean by 3.0.8. That is the version I'm using and that is experiencing issues when more than one core is enabled for the guest.

It won't necessarily work on your system just because it works on mine.
Have you updated the guest additions to 3.0.8 as well as running VirtualBox 3.0.8 ?

I've been running Debian 5 with this kernel - 2.6.26-2-amd64 with 2 cores on Win 7 64 without any problems at all. I've had my host and the virtual machine on and in use for days at a time without any noticeable issues. Might be worth noting that I do have virtualization turned on in my BIOS, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Yes, everything is 3.0.8.
My symptoms usually are if more than one cpu is set for the guest, the guest will run for a while. Eventually, some graphic corruption occurs and any CPUs assigned to the guest will be at 100%. For example, my i7 appears as 8 CPUS (4 real CPUs with HT enabled). If I assign 6 of them to the guest, the CPU utilization will peg at 75% when the graphical corruption occurs.
