Video Drivers

Post by Helo »

Hello everyone. I started using VB only yesterday and I was amazed at how fast you can get an additional OS :D . Anyway, here are my details:
Host OS: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty
Guest OS: Windows XP
VirtualBox version: 3.0.6
My computer is a notebook HP 550
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5670 @ 1.80GHz
RAM: 3 GB
VGA: Intel X3100

Windows XP installation went perfect with the exception that I can't install the video drivers (neither from the HP site nor from the Intel site). Both installations give me the error "This computer does not meet the minimum system requirements."
Here are the settings for the guest OS:
System
Base Memory: 1355 MB
Processor(s):1
VT-x/AMD-V:Disabled
Nested Paging:Disabled

Display
Video Memory:128 MB
3D Acceleration:Enabled
Remote Display Server:Disabled

Oh, I also tried to do a manual install of the drivers from Intel (as they are the only ones that are also available in a .zip archive) but received the error that the destination does not contain any information about my device. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help :) .

Hint - it's a Virtual machine so it has a Virtual graphics adapter. The guest OS does not see the actual physical graphics card.

You need to install the Guest Additions (read manual & FAQ), this provides drivers for the virtual hardware, as well as massively improving the integration possibilities between guest and host.
