Blue screen when installing Electronics Workbench

Post by hadoque »

Hi
I'm trying to install Electronics Workbench 5.12 on my windows xp guest system in my laptop running ubuntu 9.04.
The setup file is on a cd which mounts like it should. I can run setup and enter name and serial number, but when the program starts installing i get the blue screen of death.
This program worked excellent on a standalone installation of win xp on a separate partition on the same laptop.
It's quite an old program, so I also tried running the setup program in win 2000 and win 98 compatability mode, with no different result.
I have no idea on how to start troubleshooting this problem. Can anyone give me a few hints?

Make an ISO from the CD and install from the ISO.

Here is the screen dump. It's in swedish, but I think the relevant information is obvious. Tell me if I should translate otherwise.

Yeah, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it:
* A condition that the kernel is not allowed to have or intercept (also known as a bound trap), e.g. the CPU generated an error that the kernel did not catch.
* Software problems
* Hardware failures
I changed the ide controller to PIIX3 and made a new guest install, but no difference...

Yeah, in the latest installation I don't have the guest additions installed at all.

Vbox version? if 3.0.x make sure vt-x, smp and such stuff is off, io apic might help, does the Guest see one core or more? You could also try 2.2.4

Version is 2.1.4 and the guest sees one core. If there is nothing else to test, I guess it's time to try a newer version...
