Ubuntu Host and Ubuntu Guest network error

Post by vadonka »

Hi!

My name is Peter and im from Hungary.

I installed an Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit server. I need 2 virtualbox guest at the same time with different ip's.
I installed both guest and i created on the host os a vboxnet0 interface with static ip address, no dhcp.
I use host only networking the gest os ethernet adapter (eth0) attached to vboxnet0. Both guest attached to vboxnet0.
I set the ip address manually:

Host:
Internet access:
IP: 192.168.11.24/255.255.255.0

vboxnet0
IP: 10.0.1.1/255.255.255.0

Guest 1:
IP: 10.0.1.2/255.255.255.0

Guest 2:
IP: 10.0.1.3/255.255.255.0

If i ping from the host guest1 or guest2 working a while.. Sometimes couple of hours, sometimes days, but in the end stopped.
The guest OS is running, i can access with the vrdp interface but the network is gone. If i restart the host and starting up the guest
the netwokr is working again a while and then stopped.

from 10.0.1.1
ping 10.0.1.1 (working)
ping 10.0.1.2 (not working)

from 10.0.1.2
ping 10.0.1.2 (working)
ping 10.0.1.1 (not working)

I search for syslogs and everywhere, but nothing. No errors, just the network is not working, like i unplug the normal ethernet card cable.

Anybody can help me? Whats wrong? The host or the guest?

Thank You for the help!

Peter

I think a figure out!

Virtualbox install a precompiled kernel driver but i think its not perfect, so i manually recompile all of the virtualbox kernel driver. Then i think the guest additions needed if the guest OS just a console only Linux. The network adapter module changed after that.

Now both guest OS running perfect :)
