Usb devices not anymore with virtualbox 2.2.2/3.0.6 PUEL

Hello all
I have upgraded to Virtualbox 2.2.2 long time ago on opensuse 10.3 and noticed that all usb devices are grayed out.
Now I've upgraded to version 3.0.6 and it's the same thing.
I cannot mount anymore usb devices.
Any hints what is wrong?
usb devices are activated...
USB Device Filters: 0 (0 active)
I have also tried to set a filter to mount at startup but does not work....
Thanks a lot for any help
Beat

Why not update your profile so we can see what the host and guest are?
Also make sure that you installed the new guest additions.

For openSuSE add the following file /etc/udev/rules.d/11-vboxdrv.rules with the following content:
KERNEL=="vboxdrv", NAME="vboxdrv", OWNER="root", GROUP="root", MODE="0600"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", GROUP="vboxusers", MODE="0664"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", NAME="VirtualBox/$env{BUSNUM}/$env{DEVNUM}", GROUP="vboxusers", MODE="0664"
Reboot and usb should work in VirtualBox.

I did just that and nothing else and it now works!
Thanks a lot indeed!
Hope this will be fixed in 3.0.7 (or in opensuse 11.2).

It worked for me also. One thing I found was the USB mouse and wacom tablet doesn't work if you have it showing as an active device, I had to remove them from the USB device list. All is well now.
thanks

That's a little confusing, you shouldn't need to do any mods under ubuntu. Do you have the file /etc/udev/rules.d/10-vboxdrv.rules, if so what would the output of the following command be?
ls -la /dev/bus/usb/001

Thanks
Will try this too. Have found that an entry in the form
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto,busgid=1001,busmode=0775,devgid=1001,devmode=0664 0 0
in /etc/fstab will to the job...
Where gid=1001 is vboxusers gid ...
Thanks again

That solution will work too but it's not the optimal solution and to test my solution you'll have to revert back to the original 10.3 settings.
USBFS is deprecated and openSuSE and Ubuntu doesn't mount it by default, VirtualBox looks if USBFS is mounted and reverts back to old code, if it's not mounted it will use newer code using libusb, the problem with openSuSE is a default rule that overrides 10-vboxdrv.rules, 11-vboxdrv.rules will fix that problem.

The hank_se solution worked for me too:
VBox: 3.0.10
Host: openSUSE 11.1
guest: openSUSE 11.2, XP
Many thanks.
