Virtualbox networking + Hamachi

Post by clonevdi »

Hi,

I've had many problems with hamachi on virtual machines.
It may be useful to talk about them.

Example 1 :
2 pc, 2 vbox, 2 virtual XP sessions, having the same copy of harddisk.vdi
-> I have always difficulties to ping each other, even with hamachi.
-> I've had same and different IPs, and different IPs with hamachi cases... but always ping problems.

Question 1 : does anybody have the same problem ? and know why ?
Question 2 : does anybody know where I could find detailed doc and examples about networking between virtual machine and the real machine which hosts virtualbox ? (because there are many LAN problems)
Question 3 : how can I set up a clean LAN between my real host COMP and my virtual COMP ?

Thank you !

If you have a router then you should set these up using Bridged mode.
Also look at firewall issues.

Thanks for this precise advice !

So I'll try to set up a server and client config in LAN or direct ip for a home made game.
I hope it will finally work !
It was funny to play age of empires on virtual machines and real machines at the same time.
This virtualbox is very powerfull !!!

But a mystery is still existing for me :
I often have to open a port for my server. But in the realty I'm behind a Rooter and I don't want to open a port on my real rooter for security. is there any mean to open a port and make my server-client work with a virtual open port for LAN of virt/real Comps, and for Direct IP ?

One of my real comps is really low in memory, I tried to raise it's memory (XP host parameters) but it has no effect on the memory I can allow to my virtual machine. Is there any tips to have more host memory for my virtual machine ?

Thanks for your advices !
