Hi:
i have been using a WinXP guest on a Linux host for sometime. It is running well. I have updated to VBox 3.0.6 and I have noticed that even though VBox guests can now use both cores on my AMD processor my WinXP continues to see only 1 core. Do I have to reinstall WinXP from scratch to have both cores be used from WinXP? I am hoping there is some setting someplace, may be in registry or in the host side?
Thanks.
George

You either need to re-install XP or you can update the XP kernel. BUT you need to know that this is more than likely not going to speed anything up and may even run slower. Myself I would leave it as it if it is working for you.

Is there a technical explanation for why WinXP guest might get slower if it runs using 2 cores rather than just 1 core?

Its a SMP / VBox issue for now, in the quickclic faq there is a link about single/multi core Guests.
