Installation Issue

Ok I have Windows XP with the virtual box loaded( home usage only). I have walked through the steps of setting up my guest client but now I am a little confused. Every time I load my virtual machine it reloads(re-installs) the guest every time. I am missing a step some where and would like not to have to reload the guest every time.
My question.... can someone point me in the right direction of how to install a virtual machine so I don' reload it every time.

My other question is can you save small items on the virtual machine that will be saved (such as a simple document) so it can be used again and again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to unmount the CD/DVD in the guest settings to stop the constant reload of the OS.
Yes you can use the VM as you would any other operating system.

You more than likely will not be able to do this from the guest until you shut it down instead of rebooting. Then you go into the VM settings and take the check mark out of enable the CD/DVD. Start the guest and you should be good to go.

Any particular reason that you are trying to run a 2.5 year old version of Ubuntu?

I realized hat as I was installing. I am learning linux on my own and realizing how little I know about command lines and everything in between. I have used Windows all my life.....haha made myself sound old....but I am waning to know whats out there. So not only am I trying out ubuntu but also linux mint and nimbleX just so I can see a wide variety.

What I was asking though is why such and old version of Ubuntu? Feisty (7.04) was released in April 2007. Jaunty (9.04) was released in April of this year.
