VBox hangs if i copy a file from shared folder or usb harddi

Help needed.

Background:
Host: Ubuntu Server 9.04 with VBox-Version 3.04
Guest: Ubuntu Desktop with Guest Additionals 9.04 on Guest HD: Installing are ok.
Mounting a Shared Folder: ok
Reading from the Shared Folder: ok
Mounting USB-HD: ok
Reading from the USB-HD: ok
But the Problem is:

When i copy a great file freeze the VBox-Guest after a short time of usage.


Would anyone please help me !

How big of a file?
Is it greater than the HD format will allow for a single file?
What is the USB-HD formatted in?

Hi Perryg,

The file is ca. 9 GB big and it's an .gz Imagefile who i create via (dd if=/dev/hda* | gzip -c | cat > /mnt/usbdisk/imagehda.gz).
I create this in an old Virtualbox-Guestsystem, with Partedmagic-LiveCd
Unzipping on an native Testdisk works fine.
The USB-HD is in ext3 formated.

ext3 should be fine. How about the RAM in the host and how much have you assigned the guest.
I know for a fact that VB uses all of the memory that it can get from the guest as well as the host to move large files around.
Also have you tried a samba share to move these large files. I think you will find that it works and is faster as well.
