Running the latest VB build (3.0.4), I am trying to install XP as the GuestOS on a Host XP system. I have been using VB for a few months now (thank you download.com!
THE PROBLEM: In the hopes of saving a lot of time/effort spent installing/reinstalling all my programs/settings inside the VPC (virtual PC) yet again, I created a full backup image of the final working state of things before the last uninstall. I did so using Macrium Reflect Free Edition (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp).
To make a long story short, the backup image restoration process has not been smooth or easy, by a long shot. After a few failed attempts of using the physical backup image saved on my HD (Western Digital RaptorX 150 GB WD1500AHFD-00RAR5), I had to create/burn an .iso file (about 3.5 GB) to a DVD-RW. Again using Macrium Reflect, I made a Linux-run Rescue Disc, which runs the restoration process inside a Windows environment. That finally worked...as far as saying the backup image restoration was "complete". But now before boot up, I get the following error code:
I have done a bit of research about this matter & the gist of the solution I've found is that somewhere along the setup line I forgot to make the HD partition bootable (http://i-nz.net/2009/04/30/resize-a-vir ... isk-howto/). Honestly cannot remember ever having seen an option for that during the many times I've installed VB. To make matters more difficult, no one mentions how/when/where during the installation process &/or restoration from backup images one can/cannot make a bootable HD partition. Not that I've found, anyways. I've always assumed that was the default setting. Why wouldn't you want to make the partition bootable in single HD setup?
Is this situation salvageable? Or do I have to start from scratch again? Is what I'm trying to do (backup image restoration) even possible in a virtual machine?
Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.
