XP instance can't read CDROM

Post by TylerSontag »

Hey All,

Ubuntu user for a few years now, but in order to remote in for work I needed a windows box and thank goodness for virtualbox.

I was able to remote in correctly but I got to playing around with it and found that my instance of XP can’t read my CD ROM drive (interfering with my Spore installation)

Any suggestions?

Just a heads-up in case this was your situation... if you look at para 3.7.5 of the user guide you will see a small comment about music CDs... they are NOT supported. Only reading/writing of data CDs is supported!

I doubt this is his situation, since he said he was trying to install the Spore software game.

Im running Ubuntu 9.04 trying to virtualize a copy of XP. It is a tweeked version of XP, it comes barebones with alot of the superfluous options not out of the box enabled. I've ran this as the primary OS on my desktop and not had this same problem. When i put in a disk and try and click on the D: drive, it says "Please insert a disk" i imagine i need to point the media drove at something else, but im not sure what....

I have the same problem. Can't read a CD or DVD, or ISO image. This happened when I upgraded to 3.0.6 under Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy). I noticed the problem when I couldn't install the guest additions. The guest os is Wndows XP Pro sp 3.

I am also running VirtualBox 3.0.6 (bin) under Gentoo with WindowsXP Home guest and no CD/DVD or ISO problems.
