USB is greyed out
I have VirtualBox 3.0.4.50677 installed on Windows XP 32 bit, and the USB is greyed out. I installed Linux Ubuntu 9.04 I think, but does the guest OS matteR? I might have skipped USB installation the first time I installed it, but I uninstalled through Add/Remove programs, deleted the .virtualbox folder and reinstalled. However the USB is still greyed out. What can I do now?

Did you remember to reboot the host?
Also is USB enabled in the guest settings of the VM?

I just rebooted the host. USB is still greyed out. How do I enable it in guest settings of VM?

Maybe I need to do a complete uninstall? Or has anybody had this problem before?

Have you installed the guest additions?

I hate to sound like a broken record, but did you reboot the guest after you installed the guest additions?

Re: USB is greyed out
Isn't USB support optional during an install now? I know I saw USB mentioned as an install option, but since I accepted the default I don't know what the consequences would have been if I didn't.

Re: USB is greyed out
IIRC Unless he changed something the only additional add on that is not selected by default is 3d Effect. So it should install by default unless switched off or told not to install when asked during guest addition installation.

Re: USB is greyed out
I rebooted the host and the guest and still nothing. Maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall? I made sure I installed everything that I saw. If I installed the 3.0.x will that one have USB? I pressed 'continue anyway' on all the driver installations, so maybe something is conflicting?

Re: USB is greyed out
I made a Windows XP guest OS and the USB works fine, but it still does not work for the Linux Ubuntu guest. Is that odd?
