i want to use virtualbox to run windows in ubuntu/linux solely for the purpose of math lab for college here are my specs for my dell:
memory 500.6 MiB
processor Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 CPU 2.40 GhZ
can i use virtual box as it stands now?
does my computer have enough memory for virtualbox

You can install XP with 128 Meg of Ram, but it will run slow. You can actually run it at 64 Meg but not suggested.

There was a time when I used to run XP SP3 in vbox on a localhost machine of only 512MB RAM and Mint. The vbox instance of XP with 128MB worked fine because:
> it was installed with TinyXP
> themes, time, updates and many other unessential services were disabled
> replaced the default windows shell with GeoShell
The benefits were:
> didn't have to fuss with automatic updates
> didn't run any anti-virus either... major CPU/RAM benefits
> and you wouldn't say it was slow
Point is... yes your Dell should have more RAM added but even as is, a seriously tweaked XP can run successfully! An installation of XP out of the box was and is never a good installation, even with 2GB RAM (IMHO) and should always be seriously tweaked for performance, especially if the RAM resources are low.
