How can I recover a deleted VM ?

Hi,
By mistake I deleted a VM. Using an undelete tool I recovered the VM main vdi file, and all the snapshots found in that folder.
Unfortunately I could not find the log(s).
I tried to re-create a new VM and use the (recovered vdi) disk but this it seems to be an old version of my VM.
What should I do to be able to get the current state of the VM as it was before the deletion?
I guess I should use the VM's snapshots? Can I do that? How?
I tried to modify the name of the snapshot in the new log file, the save it and start the VM. This did not work
The previous snapshot goes back.
