This sounds a lot like another topic where the user didn't have any web access while using bridged. The only thing that worked was ping and DNS lookups. It's very strange, because I don't have this problem at all on my machines. Now the only difference I can think of, is that my machines were installed quite some time ago. The other user with the same problem did have full connectivity to the outside using NAT (internet with name, local network with IP only). You can try that, I hope that your NAS and printer work without issues.

Sasquatch, could you please point me to the thread you mentioned? I have the same problem as the one you described: I can ping anything, but thats about it, every other kind of connection fails from WinXP.

@tothbela,

Your problem sounds more like a DNS issue. You can try to set a known good DNS in the guest, like OpenDNS and see if this corrects your problem.

Thanks for your answer, however, it does not solve the problem.
(I also fail to see how could it have, as pinging for example, google.com won't work without working DNS in place.)

I shall describe the problem and the attempted solutions better:

I have altered the /etc/network/interfaces file:

#Virtual box interface
auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth0
bridge_fd 2.5

I have edited the /etc/vbox/interfaces file:
vbox0 tothbela br0

ifconfig shows br0 and eth0 have the same ip adresses.
ipconfig shows i have an uniq ip in the virtual XP.

(And of course I have configured Virtual Box for Host Interface with vbox0 as device.)

Any suggestions?

Which version of VB are you using? Host Interface is no longer used since 2.0.0 or 2.1.0. It's now Bridged, and uses the physical NIC directly.

Either upgrade to the PUEL version so you are with the same version as the TS who started with this problem, or open a new topic.
