I have 3 Ubuntu 9.04 pc's with VirtualBox 3.04 on it, on 2 of them the guest is WinXP and on the 3rd Win2000.
All Guests have the same problem: Now and then they start in 8 bit color mode.
When I stop them and restart them they many times start up in 32 bit color mode anyway, sometimes I have to restart them another time.
All 3 pc's have a NVidia graphics card, I've given all of them at least 64Mb video memory.
I guess I can't be the only one with this problem but haven't found anything about this on this forum. Has anybody found a way to fix this?
Cheers,
Misja
Windows guests sometimes start with 8 bit colors
Re: Windows guests sometimes start with 8 bit colors
Look at the devices inside the Guest if some are marked yellow, also look at the vbox service if thats running and if the vbox tray gets loaded. One of these isn't working properly, if a GA reinstall will work depends on the problem(s).

Re: Windows guests sometimes start with 8 bit colors
Thanks for you reply.
When I check the Display Adapters in my WXP guest I see a 'VirtualBox Graphics Adapter' that is not yellow, even when XP just started in 8bit color mode.
I also see a 'Sun xVM VirtualBox Guest Additions' icon in the system tray.
