Are you really, really sure you're not running the 64 bit version? It looks at lot like that to me, and giving that my CPU is 64 bit, though not hardware-v capable, and the installer going beserk, it's possible it tried to load the 64 bit edition. When checking the possible downloads, I don't see an architecture specific version of the US-EU release. I do see two specific ISO's in the torrent listing for i586 and x86_64. If you execute a uname -a, you will see which architecture you're actually running.

SASQ

Thanks for the tip ill look when i get home

it turns out that you MAY be right, the version Im using may be the auto sensing version

if so that would certainly say that MDV has come a LONG way w/ their 64 bit version though.......

It's the only explanation I can think of with the error you get in your dmesg.

You can always check and try to install the 64 bit .run file or MDV package. There are MDV 2009.1 packages you know: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

well after trying the MDV 64 bit version (I had tried the 32 bit version 1st) i got a definite error telling me that i was trying to install a 64 bit app on a 32 bit os

so i deliberately downloaded the adorementioned cd iso, that was known to work.

installed the all distros moel, and i'm now runnning mdv as my host puppy in one window and win7 in another!

giveing up isnt popular or easy but after 2 weeks, it just seemed to make sense to start from a known good configuration
