[Solved] Grey USB peripherals.

Hi all,
I am using Virtualbox 3.0.4 PUEL version on a Slackware host. The guest is windows xp with guest additions.
I tried to follow user manual but my usb peripherals still don't work : the peripherals list on the guest are grey.
I added usb filters and tried without, restarted the guest, unpluged the device.
I am not able to add my user to the vboxusers group since the group do not exist in /etc/group.
Does anyone have suggestions on getting usb peripherals working? Thanks in advance.

Hi Perryg, thanks for your reply.

The problem is that the vboxusers group was not created during the installation. Creating the group and joining it could be the solution?

Slackware is not an official Host OS but it should be possible to get it to work as you want.
Maybe some reading here will help. http://www.google.com/search?q=install+ ... +slackware

Ok, usb devices now work fine!
The problem was : the user that belongs to vboxusers group did not have rw rights on usbfs.
Here is how i fix that, it works for me, but i don't say it is the right way.
Modify the usbfs line in /etc/mtab like this :

Code: Select all

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=102,devmode=0664 0 0 (102 is the vboxusers group id on my system.)
Thanks fot the help here and on #vbox
