xp virtualbox running under vista: GUI won't load

I'm running VirtualBox 3.0.4 on Windows vista, and I created an XP machine. When I start it, it shows the DOS part, says it's loading windows, but at the point the graphical interface should kick in it just doesn't happen. If I restart it, it gives me the Safe Mode, Normal Mode, Last Configuration options, then runs the progress bar across the bottom as it starts my selection, but then just appears to hang when the bar reaches the end. It's like it just doesn't start the gui.

Any help?

Is this a new installation of XP? From a genuine install CD (or ISO of same)? 32bit host and client I assume?

Attaching the VM settings xml (use code tags) may save us asking a lot of questions.

Details of host please, such as CPU type, and memory available.
