How do I COMPLETELY REMOVE this C.... Software?

Post by wdsmile »

Forum,

Host: Win7 x64 (build 7100)
Guest: Linux->Ubuntu64
VirtualBox Version 3.04
:x

After days of screwing around with trying to get Networking to work, all I want to do is to COMPLETELY REMOVE this ahem Software from my computer.

I know uninstall is not cleaning something (Registry?) out. How do I know this? During the very first (of many) installs I changed the default location for
the virtual drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of time and every new install picks up this change. Also the last install shows a network change I made
while trying to get the network working. Before I waste any more time with trying to install/configure VirtualBox I want to make sure it is COMPLETELY
cleaned off the computer.

Please no braindead solutions like "Wipe the disk and re-install Win7..."

Open Explorer and enter %userprofile% in the addressbar. You will see your profile folder. In there, at the top, you will see a folder called .VirtualBox. That folder holds all the settings you made. Removing that folder will allow you to start with a clean slate from where you can try again to get networking done. If you need help to get your network going, create a new topic for it.

I have already removed the folder, run cleanmgr and defragmented the disk.
I have searched the drives for anything virtualbox, vthor (the name of the Guest).
I have searched the registry for both.
This is actually why I know something is not being clean out.
When I very first installed Virtual box I changed the default location of the .VirtualBox folder. I have uninstalled
VirtualBox, when I try to reinstall VirtualBox it picks up this change I made. As I said I have scanned the drives
and registry but can't find anything. So what am I missing? Where is VirtualBox storing this information?

I am not going to waste anymore time with installing or trying to configure VirtualBox until I know I have completely removed it,
and all of the Virtual Host-only Networking Adapters

If you changed the location of the settings files, then you might have set an environmental variable VBOX_USER_HOME in your system properties. I don't know exactly where it is located in Win 7, but I'm sure that you can find it somewhere in System Properties, which you can open by using the shortcut Winkey + Pause/Break, or the properties of the My Computer icon.

The Host-Only adapter should be removed when you uninstall VB. Check the Device Manager to see if it's actually gone.

Sasquatch,

Thanks for the help but no joy. I have looked through the environmental variable and and no VBOX anything.

I'm still looking.
