Hello, I installed Windows 7 RC into Virtual Box on PCLinuxOS 2009 and all seems well except no USB ( my USB mouse dose work) and no sound.
When I connect my scanner or the external hard drive Virtual Box doesn't see them. There is no mention of USB in the details tab of VB or the devise manager on Windows 7, however the USB mouse dose work with VB. Also Windows 7 doesn't see a sound card, but VB dose show it in the details tab.
I installed the latest drivers for both the sound and the scanner. I have Windows 7 installed on another hard drive on the same machine and all works well.
I can live without sound but I do need USB for the scanner. Any ideas? Thanks.n8xk

USB is not available in the OSE version of VirtualBox. You will need to use the PUEL version if you need USB support.

I'm assuming that you are using a PUEL copy and not an OSE version.
After installing the VB Additions on this version of Windows 7 (not RC but the enterprise version off MSDN) I noted that VB's sound drivers don't work (yet) with the Multimedia Audio Controller. V3.0.4 worked fine with Win7 RC so I guess this will be fixed with the next release.
However the USB devices work as they have with previous versions but again, note that this won't work for you if you've installed the OSE version.

Re: No USB or sound with Windows 7 in VB w/ PCLinuxOS
I had the same problem found this bit of advise did the trick.
1. I went to http://www.realtek.com.tw
2. I clicked on "Downloads", then on "AC'97 Audio Codecs". On the downloads page I downloaded the file with the description "Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)"
3. Once downloaded, I extracted the files and pointed the Device Manager driver installer to the "6303_Vista_Win7_PG537\6303_Vista_PG537\Vista64" folder. It found the driver and proceeded with installation. Once it was done the Device Manager refreshed itself and showed the sound card as installed and working.
This all done inside windows 7 in VB, you may need to completly restart VB for it to work.
I also found this link very useful for usb.

I see v3.0.6 rolled out this morning... unfortunately this maintenance release does not address vbox drivers for Win 7 video or sound. Bummer!

If you install the PUEL version and the guest additions in windows 7 It will work.
You need to have the drivers from realtek installed and then have Windows do an upgrade which will install the proper drivers.
You then need to see this Forum FAQ USB to get the USB support working.
