Windows XP dosen't find USB

Post by jmmoriano »

Hi,

I'm running VirtualBox 3.0.4 on my MacBook with Mac X OS, mainly to run a USB device that will only work under windows. The guest is Windows XP with SP3.

I have activated all the USB filters, and have enabled USB controllers also. Virtual Box seems to recognice the USB drive, but it won´t appear on windows.

I have found to probable causes. First, Windows is not able to find the drivers for one of the USBs. Where can I find the drivers?

The second probable cause is that when I try to activate the APPLE INC. BLUETOOTH USB HOST CONTROLLER, VituralBox comes up with an error messeage, that says that is in use by someone else. I don´t know if this is related.

I'm going crazy trying to making it work, and searching on the forums. Thanks in advanced.

I'm moving this to Windows Guests, because it's not a real Host issue.

Can you post a screenshot of your VM where you show the USB device (right click on the USB icon in the status bar) and the Device Manager? Also note the USB settings for the VM.
The error you get about the BlueTooth adapter is normal, your Mac OS is already using it. It's not related to your current problem, unless your Mac tries to load it and hold it, but you would get the same kind of error.
Does a normal USB stick work? If that does, then it's somewhere in the Guest.

You need to install the USB controller first, it seems that that's your main issue. Try it without USB 2 enabled (Disable EHCI). Also, you don't really need those filters, you can do without. Filters are used to automatically attach an USB device to the VM when it starts. If you use an empty filter, any new device you plug in will be passed on to the VM automatically if the VM has focus.

And install the GA too, you're probably having terrible video performance and limited resolutions.

Can you test with USB 2 enabled? SP3 should have those drivers (in fact, SP1a already had them). Maybe Windows Update can provide you with the driver if needed. Else you have to stick with USB 1.1 speeds.
