[SOLVED] Correct way to make a bridged connection w/ VB3.04

Post by NSL »

Hi all,

I've been trying for a little while to get a bridged network connection to work with a windows host and a windows guest so that the guest would have exclusive access to the physical card without routing through the host (i.e. completely separate internet connections between host and guest). The comments on the board were helpful but didn't solve my problems. I thought I'd post my solution since the boards have been very helpful for my other VB issues.

The main problem was when I created a bridged connection using a physical adapter in the VB network settings, i could connect to the local network but not the internet in the guest os. I think this is because when the card is enabled in the host, it automatically assigned an IP address to the card. The solution was to go to the card's properties and disable all services like ms file sharing, IPv4/IPv6.... all except virtual box bridged net driver. now when you load the guest in VB, it'll assign a correct IP from your physical router's DHCP. dunno if this helps others, but this is how i got my setup to work.
