[Solved] Virtualbox with multiple drive.vdi locations

Post by bbolin »

Hello all,

Having some problems with a guest o/s at a different location.

Primarily have my guest drives setup on an external drive on my laptop. However one of the guest I'd like to have local.

Every time I configure this guest to use the local hard it puts things in the default location.

Example:

Primary location (Virtualbox preferences)
F:\Virtualbox machines\
machine (directory)
machine (directory)
machine (directory)
etc...

Local location
C:\Virtualbox machines\
machine (directory)
etc...

I can fire up the new machine with the new location fine. However it creates -
F:\Virtualbox machines\
machine

This directory contains
Log directory
machine.xml file

If the machine.xml and Log directory are remove, Virtualbox complains and won't run.

The whole point of this location is not to have the external e-sata drive attached if I want to use this VM

Any ideas?

Thanks

Edit the master xml file to reflect location changes.

OK, that worked. Simulated stand alone laptop(disconnected external drive). All others show "inaccessible" as expected and the local is available.

Thanks
