problem with xp VM on a w7 host

hi.
i have a xp VM on a w7 host
the machine cannot surf the web,
the xp can make a name resolution (no dns problem)
and after a while i see that it made a windows automatic update... odd...
no ping nowhere+tracert and's at the host.
any ideas?
