Mouse "invisibly" in Guest
Hi, I use VB 3.0.4 an I have a problem with the Mouse in the Guestsystem. (Windows Vista 32bit Host)
If I turn off the Virtual Machine "Save the machine state" and start/wakeup this Machine again, the Mousepointer in the Guestsystem is "invisible".
But the guestsystem is however aktive. The Desktop and IE Icons flashing for example if I move the invisible Mousepointer over it.
After a click the on the mousebutton the Mousepointer appear.
This happend on all Guestsystems - WinXP, Win7 and Linux!
On all Host I installed the current Guest Additions.
With the older Version 3.0.2 this problem not existing.
It is difficult to describe for me.
Best you look at my video.

I think it's a bug.

Re: Mouse "invisibly" in Guest
I noticed the same thing on my VMs. I put a VM in saved state, and until I right clicked in it, the mouse didn't show (don't know if the left mouse button worked or not, never tested it). The GA on the VM isn't the latest version, so it's not a GA problem I think.

Okay, it's a bug.
On SevenGuests is no pointer available.
I reinstalled the 3.0.2.
I hobe it would be fixed ...

Did you check the Bugtracker (separate account needed) and file a bug report in case it wasn't noted yet? It's a small bug, and it doesn't prevent you from using the VM. Once you click somewhere, the cursor is shown.

Re: Mouse "invisibly" in Guest
This was first reported shortly after Virtualbox 3.0.4 was released on Aug 4. It was acknowledged by the developers as a bug and said to be fixed and that the fix would be 'in the next release'. The release date of 'the next release' was not given. That was one month ago.
I would not expect a major version release for a minor problem such as this but a minor repair release or a patched file to repair this minor annoyance would be appreciated. At the very least by me.

The whole point with VB is that it's open source. If there is a fix, it's usually in their SVN repository, ready to be checked out and compiled so you can enjoy the fix. However, the SVN has the OSE version, so you won't have the benefit that the PUEL offers: USB, VRDP, RAW Disk and a few other things.

Re: Mouse "invisibly" in Guest
I am fully aware of what you wrote and what I have quoted above here. What *I* wrote was not a complaint but merely my point of view. I was in no way criticizing the Virtualbox product or the developers of Virtualbox. I think that it is a fine product. They have done a wonderful job and I appreciate their work.Sasquatch wrote:The whole point with VB is that it's open source. For me this is a hobby. Something to do in my spare time. If I used it professionally i would purchase it.
I use a Windows 64bit Host and I do not have the necessary 'tools' to compile my own, nightly, version of Virtualbox. Nor do I feel it necessary.
I said that this is an annoyance. The simplest 'solution' is to replace the 3.0.4 guestadditions with the 3.0.2 guestadditions.
I will patiently wait for the next official release.

Re: Mouse "invisibly" in Guest
As I wrote above, it's not a GA issue, since my VMs have mixed versions of the GA. The one that showed the error didn't have 3.0.4 installed, nor 3.0.2. It was somewhere in the 2.2.x range I think.
Releasing small fixes isn't as easy as it may sound. They don't release them for various reasons, and the major one is that people will expect such things for every 'fixed in SVN' reply. You don't get those fixes with other OSS products either. Just take a look at Firefox. They don't release a new version or small patch if a security hole is fixed. They wait until they have fixed enough to call it a new release, and sometimes have no other choice but to make a new release due to the severity of the bug (security).

As I said:
"I will patiently wait for the next official release."
I also called this an annoyance and not a problem. This is a hobby type thing for me. That makes this an annoyance. If I was a paying customer then it would be a problem.
