[Solved] Server 2008 not recognizing network
Hello
I'm running Virtualbox 3.0.4 on Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
I've installed as clients - Windows 7, WinXP 32 bit, Fedora, and Server 2008.
2008 is the only program I'm having a problem with.
It is not recognizing that I have any network hardware. I can't seem to find any drivers for it. Everything else seems normal.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
Don't change the network adapter type from what the default setting was. That's the Intel adapter (either will do). Don't go and give it the PCNet III just because 'it works' on your other VMs.

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
I did a stock install just like the others.
The device provided by Virtualbox is a PCnet-FAST III(NAT)
I can't imagine what could be different?!?
Thanks!

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
Any yellow question marks in device manager? is there any listing of a lan device?

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
Windows Server 2008 is Vista based, so there is no driver for the PCNet adapter. As I stated, use either of the Intel adapters for it.

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
Thats besides the point, w8k lists hardware that it doesn't recognize as any other w-version, if it won't list anything unknown and there is no lan then the VM lan settings are empty or the VBox install is busted.

I wasn't replying to you vbox4me2, but to the TS. Should help getting LAN working for him, in case he give a positive answer to your question.

Re: Server 2008 not recognizing network
Sorry to reopen the thread. I have the same problem but the posts above didn't help
Using VirtualBox v 3.0.4
Host: Windows XP SP3
Guests: Windows Server 2008 (WS2k8), Windows7 (W7)
I can't establish a network connection with the WS2k8. Used the same settings as with W7 (where I have connection, using network bridging). Used all 3 available Intel LAN-Adapter, tried NAT and network bridging. WS2k8 is reporting 'no network found' and the diagnosis of the LAN-Adapter gives 'the network adapter is not working well' (translated from german, don't know the correct english messages).
Anyone any ideas?

Re: [Solved] Server 2008 not recognizing network
Remove the adapter, reboot the Guest and see what happens. It seems that the driver isn't installed properly, thus the device cannot start. This sometimes happen with MS. Not a real VB problem, as I've seen it a few times on bare metal too.

Re: [Solved] Server 2008 not recognizing network
So in Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark (!) at the NIC?

Re: [Solved] Server 2008 not recognizing network
Do you have any special settings done on the NIC, like static IP or something? With NAT, you need DHCP.

Re: [Solved] Server 2008 not recognizing network
I installed my Windows 2008 server using the IntelPro/1000 MT Desktop Adapter and it went without issue. I selected Bridged as well. See Screenshot to see what your device manager should show. Does yours show anything at all?
