I currently have VirtualBox(3.0.4) running on Windows XP SP3. I have two virtual machines (Knoppix and Ubuntu [Linux] ). I am trying to get remote desktop working. Currently both display settings have:

Port=3390 (I tried the default 3389 but thought maybe there was a problem with that)
Auth= NULL
Auth Timeout= 0

NAT:
First I tried default NAT settings. I got an ip address 10.0.2.15 or something and tried entering that into Windows Remote Desktop Connection application. I did this on the same machine WinXP Sp3. That Failed Saying the computer could not connect. I also have a laptop(Connected by Ethernet) which currently has Ubuntu and tried it with rdesktop and that was unable to connect.

Bridged:
Than I changed the networking settings to bridged. I got the ip address 192.168.1.XXX. I also have a router so I opened up port 3390. I than tried pinging it from my laptop and was able to. However, I was still unable to use any form of remote desktop.

I am still working on it .. any suggestions? Please post if you need more information.


EDIT 1: Just turned it back to NAT and did localhost:3390 and it worked that was on the host machine WindXP sp3. Now what IP would i use on my laptop which is on the same network connected to the router? I also opened up localhost:3390 on the router. I tried the localhost Ip and it did not work any suggestions? I used the port also.

Hey,

I just did that and opened the ports. Now when I try Remote Desktop on a different computer on the same network it does not work. Any suggestions? I am using Ubuntu. Thanks

Firewall?

I figured out two things.

1. Using the GUI remote desktop connection did not work on UBUNTU. I had to use rdesktop through the terminal I might need to mess with the settings but rdesktop worked on the first try.
2. For some reason using the local address did not work i used my really ip address and created a dynamic dns with my ip and it work.
