What is the network mode for the guest? Bridged, NAT, Host-only?
What does ipconfig /all from vista command window, and ifconfig in Cent terminal show?

Look in the CentOS and make sure that you have disabled the firewall there also.

Also check the output of the arp command. On Windows, you need to enter arp -a, on CentOS, a simple arp is enough. That should give you the IP addresses and MAC addresses of the systems you already tried to access (in whatever way, ping triggers it too). Is there any reason btw why you have 192.168.1.1 for the Guest, and not just 192.168.1.10 or something like that? Even though your ipconfig /all doesn't mention any network adapters with connection, there might be some IP conflict that Windows doesn't report, and Linux doesn't show that either by default (a separate package is needed for that detection).
Have you also tried to ping the IPv6 address (fe80:..... etc)? You ping such addresses from Windows with ping fe80:..., Linux uses ping6 fe80:.... You might need to specify which NIC to use for the ping.

Do you happen to have some additional security software installed, like some internet security software?

Change the ip address of the guest to something else beside (.1) and turn off the firewall in the vista host.
Those are the only things that I can think of at the moment to help you.
