Recover Sessions after 3.0.2 -> 3.0.4 upgrade

I've inadvertently upgraded fom 3.0.2 to 3.0.4 on an Ubuntu host with 3 running VMs through 'apt-get upgrade'. The VMs are all still running and work, but VBoxManage cannot see them anymore (i.e. 'VBoxManage list vms' shows nothing, 'VBoxManage list runningvms' shows nothing).
What's the best way to recover from this situation? Restore sessions manually? Shutdown guest?
Any tips are appreciated.

I have never done this but I would think that the machines would be visible after they were shut down and then the host rebooted.
But this is just speculation at this point for me. IIRC the actual guest xml file updates are now done at shutdown. Still you may want to wait for more input from others.

Are you using the opensource version ?
If not , the Kernel Module has to be compiled again (is not done automatically)
So the usual way is:
- Stop all running VMs
- Install updates (don't forget Kernelheaders)
- reboot
- /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
- /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start
