[Solved] Everything working great but the Mouse?

Hello
iam running the latest version of VB on a REDHAT 5 host with an XP guest. The guest built fine and boots no issues, very impressed with the small memory foot print of VB versus other players/creators, and everything works except my mouse on the guest. I will explain the set up.
1) I have my LINUX host connected to a USB KVWSwitch which has a wireless mouse and keyboard connected.
2) When i boot the guest i can use the keyboard no issue and have added my user to the vbox user group to ensure no USB issues. however my mouse is just not recognized, although the icon indicates it is?
3) Having installed guest additions this shows the mouse is again working correctly but no movement is seen on the guest.
4) i have also tried this with the USB/wireless mouse/keyboard not connected ie useing the touchpad on my laptop and i have the same issue.
Any help is appreciated - thanks
rob

Update...
So here si an odd thing... if i RDP to a bridged address or second NIC on the guest from the host the mouse works fine. However if i RDP to the VRDP address i.s. the host IP the mouse does not??
odd... i think so
cheers

Sounds like the mouse is getting grabbed as external usb device, try disabling usb for the Guest.

Hi thnx i already have the USB controller disabled on the VM via the VB gui settings. what i cannto figure out is if it is RDPing via the host IP why it is reacting differently than via a 2nd NIC?
cheers

In the GUI directly, move the mouse to somewhere inside the OS screen. Now right click. Do you see a context menu? If so, does the mouse appear too? Have you tried installing the GA again?

Hi
if i click anywhere in the guest Console/GUI i get no response or menu. Reinstall GA - not sure what you mean

You say that you installed the Guest Additions, maybe installing them again fixes something. Tried to install them from safe mode? If not, do that now, maybe some files got replaced and messed things up with the integration.

Hi
ahh i see what you mean. i have reinstalled the GA and no change , still the same issue. Mouse integration works fine from a RDP session to a second NIC/real IP but in the console and using the VRDP IP and port it does not.
Tryin to install GA in safe mode seems not to work i.e. the install never starts.
Any ideas?
cheers

Has anyone got any further ideas? I have also tried with a USB mouse direct into thte host to get around the KVMswitch but makes not difference. I can use a mouse with the guest only if i use a separate bridged IP and not the VRDP or console approach?/

OK i ran VB as root and was then able to assign USB devices to the guest, not the right way as then it grabs the mouse off the host but it looks like a permissions issue
any advice
cheers

Fixed --- i removed the mouse from the device manager and rebooted the guest , it was incorrectly being reported as a PS2 mouse with the wrong driver.... all happy now
