Problems with shared folders and Office 2007

Hi all,
I am having trouble using shared folders with Virtual Box 2.2.4 or 3.0.4 (I upgraded for that) on a Ubuntu 9.04 Host, Windows XP SP3 guest and Office 2007.
I am mapping a linux folder with the GUI as Machine Folder (permanent) and map the resulting \\VBOXSVR\<folder> to drive letter V.
I can access the folder and browse its contents. However, as soon as I try to access any word 2007 files, it takes about 30 sec and then access fails. For example, when I open a .docx Document, I always get the letters <!-- b3 --> instead of the content of the file.
When I try to save a new file, I always get a complaint the file already exists. If I then chose to save under a different name, Office tries to save with a http://vboxsvr/... link and then gives me a "an error occured when trying to access the frontpage web service". (sorry, I have German error messages, this is my translation).
This happens in both NAT and bridged network environments.
Saving and reading plain text files with the windows editor works just fine.
Is this an Office 2007 issue? Anyone else having these problems?
Cheers
