Newbie needs help when connecting to Windows XP .vdi

Post by dcham1 »

I am running Windows Xp on one partition and Mandrivia Linux 2008 on another. I installed Virtual Box 3.0.4 so that my linux can access the windows .vdi file so that I can run my Magic Jack (Tiger Jet USB, for which the linux sees it as a device)
When I start Virtual Box to access the .vdi file I get the following message:

*****Failed to start the virtual machine dcham1 xp.
Failed to open image '/mnt/win_c/Documents and Settings/Deanne/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/dcham1 XP.vdi' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
Failed to attach driver below us! Image is read-only. (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Primary Master (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {0a51994b-cbc6-4686-94eb-d4e4023280e2}

I checked my permissions to make sure that I had the correct read/write access. I just down loaded this program today because the folks on the "unofficial magic jack forum" was able to get this program to work and connect to the Magic Jack. Can anyone shed some light as to what I maybe doing wrong. The users manual from this web site was not helpful whatsoever. Thanks for your help
